Cadbury & Sheffield LA Partnership Working 3 Year Action Plan
Theme 1 : World of Work Programme
Rationale
A key target for the local authority is to raise attainment, boost post 16 participation, to reduce the number of NEETs (Not in Employment, Education or Training) at post 16 and to ensure students have appropriate employability skills, particularly those relating to enterprise.
· Education partners to work collaboratively with Cadbury to provide an Engineering/Manufacturing context to support the development of employability skills in students.
Within that aim there are several key foci:
· To develop more links with education
· To make projects more manageable
· To establish effective industrial contexts for education activity
· To develop employability skills in young people
As indicated in the covering letter, there has already been some progress made in the region towards the development of a programme to support engineering and manufacturing. This is based around the four themes of:
· Raising Awareness
· Supporting Teaching and Learning
· Celebrating Success
· Working with Employers
Representatives from CTB have already taken part in some of these activities, and the four pilot schools fro the NW of Sheffield have already been identified and spoken to CTB to gain agreement for the programme outlined below.
The four schools are:
Bradfield School: Specialist School in Engineering
Stocksbridge School: Specialist School in Maths and ICT
Myers Grove School: Proposed Specialist School in Business and Enterprise: Site of new 14 –19 Enterprise Centre
Wisewood School: Specialist School in Sports
Although the project focuses on the 14 – 19 age group, there is an appreciation that it will become necessary to draw in younger students if they are to successfully engage with engineering / manufacturing.
